As the official BPF Forum, serving our members nationally, the moderators work very hard to keep polio-related news/topics/links up to date and welcome any additional information by our members.
We are happy to share this information to spread the word but would appreciate, if copied to other forums, an acknowledgement and/or link to us as the original source.

Welcome to the British Polio Fellowship Online Forum.
The British Polio Fellowship is dedicated to ensuring members have as many ways as possible for keeping in touch with each other and the forum offers and excellent medium for members to keep in touch, particularly for those who may not have easy access to the branch network.
This forum has been created so that you can exchange ideas, converse and meet with others members who share a common interest in a safe environment.
At its heart the forum is designed and led by the members and I am glad to see so many members get involved with discussions. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the rules and the moderators are there to help and guide you.

This is a community forum for the benefit of Polio Survivors in the UK and members of the British Polio Fellowship.
Our main purpose is to provide a safe haven for people who have been affected by Polio to share experiences and help each other cope with the challenges of living with the late effects of Polio and life in general. Please be supportive, welcoming and friendly to all users, and bear in mind that many individuals may be new to online forums or new to Post Polio Syndrome.
Our moderators are volunteers and are not able to engage in private conversation concerning posts. If you see something that offends you or that you feel moderators should be made aware of, please report it.
Our aims are to:
* provide a source of news and Information for the British Polio Fellowship community
* promote activities of the British Polio Fellowship Membership
* create and promote an inclusive on line community for all of its members
* encourage active discussion and share information, experiences, thoughts, ideas and comments on a range of topical issues.
It is unfortunate that we do have to set out conditions of use but common sense and respect for others goes a long way.
Conditions of use:
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use the Forums to post any material which is knowingly false or defamatory, inaccurate, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law. Remember that you are free to disagree with opinions but not to attack the person expressing them.
Messages which, solely, or mainly, consist of links to other sites do not encourage a proper debate and should be avoided if possible.
Forum postings must not contain characters, images or words that would be deemed to be offensive. Some particularly offensive words are automatically replaced by the system.
You agree not to stir up trouble between other members. Posts can and will be removed by the British Polio Forum moderators if they feel a message to be inflammatory or abusive. Member status can be suspended or removed altogether if needed.
Individual logins are required on these forums. If you are sharing a PC please be aware that if you break the rules all users of that PC may be banned from the forum under these terms and conditions.
Trade advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are not permitted. Forum moderators and administrators may block any user if it is deemed necessary.
You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or this site and not to make public anything which has been communicated to you privately, either on the Forum or by any other means of communication.
Please acknowledge the origin of any material you post e.g. a magazine article.
The British Polio Forum is a community site and not a site to post personal research and survey requests. All posts seeking people for research purposes will be withdrawn unless approved by administration prior to posting.
You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify The British Polio Fellowship charity, including its staff, trustees and volunteers. We reserve the right to delete or edit any message for any or no reason whatsoever.
We reserve the right to reveal your identity to an appropriate person or authority in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.
Abuse of the Forum or Messaging system will result in a permanent ban.
If you are unhappy about a decision or an action by a moderator then the first course of action is to talk to the moderator concerned. If s/he cannot resolve the problem then it will be referred by the moderator to the moderators as a whole. If you are still not satisfied then it can be referred, first to the senior Administrator and then to the BPF Chief Executive Officer and ultimately to the Trustees, an elected body whose decision is final.
Because of the nature of our affinity in BPF it is natural to wish to discuss medication, orthotics and prosthetics with others. While we do not wish to discourage helpful discussion, we must urge everybody to be careful in doing this, as some medication in particular, while being suitable for one person, may be positively dangerous for others. Any members intending to use a form of medication new to them are very strongly advised to discuss it first with their doctors.
While the moderators will attempt to monitor any messages which appear to give dangerous advice, the BPF and this Forum cannot take responsibility for the consequences arising from the use of substances or equipment advised by individuals.
Please be aware that some information in your forum profile may be seen by other members. The majority of people that use The British Polio Fellowship Forum are unlikely to cause trouble, but previously unmanaged and unmoderated forums have reported problems.
Some of your forum profile information may be viewed by others. These items are:
Username, Number of posts, Age, Date registered, Date and time last active.
It is also possible to view posts made by another member, though not Personal Messages and to see usage statistics.
Moderators can see a member's email address so that they can send an email if needed.
All other information is only available to administrators.
Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable or another user is behaving inappropriately is asked to contact a moderator.
We have the power to remove or edit objectionable messages and will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame if we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realise that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately. Serious breaches will be not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact a moderator, we are here to help.
